What’s different is the interaction. Through the online component of this course you can interact with other health professionals all over the U.S. and beyond.
Is there a specific time that you must log in for the course or do you go at your own pace? [back to top]
The mini-course is asynchronous, which means that you work at your own pace. We do not have a "live chat" or a specific day or time that you must be online.
Can I take both mini-courses? [back to top]
There may be some slight overlap between the two courses, but you may enroll in both if you wish. Ideally, complete Fitting Fats into a Healthy Lifestyle (Level I) before enrolling in Current Topics in Fats and Health (Level 2).

How much time is involved? [back to top]
Each mini-course is 5 weeks long and is designed to take approximately 10 hours to complete, so plan on spending about two hours per week on the activities. Although each mini-course is designed to be finished in five weeks, you will have six weeks to complete.
How much does each mini-course cost? [back to top]
Each mini-course costs $50.
How many CPEUs will I receive? [back to top]
You will receive a Certificate of Completion that documents 10 CPEUs.
How do I obtain a certificate of completion? [back to top]
After completing a mini-course and participating and replying in all of the online discussions, submit the course wrap-up survey. Then we will email your Certificate of Completion. More specific directions are at the end of each mini-course.
How do I obtain CPEUs from the American Dietetic Association?
Your Certificate of Completion will document completion of 10 hours or 10 CPE units. Most Registered Dietitians now maintain their own records in their Professional Development Portfolios rather than receiving CPEU updates directly from the ADA. The University of Massachusetts - Amherst Department of Nutrition is an accredited CPE Provider with the American Dietetic Association, number UN002.

What kind of computer and software do I need? [back to top]
You must....
- have access to a personal computer (Mac or PC),
- be familiar with basic computer skills,
- be connected to the Internet with at least a 56 Kbps modem,
- have Netscape 5 or Internet Explorer 4,
- have an e-mail account to receive instructions for accessing the course,
- be able to set your browser to accept cookies,
- be able to turn off pop-up blockers.
What if my vacation or a professional conference falls during the time I’m enrolled in a mini-course? [back to top]
You can work on the mini-course from anywhere that you have access to the Internet, such as hotel business offices, Internet cafés, and public libraries. We have had enrollees join our online discussions from as far away as Hawaii, St. Croix in the Caribbean, and Italy.
Or, if you really want to get away from it all, just let your instructor know that you will be traveling and you can catch up with the activities when you return.
