Fitting Fats into a Healthy Lifestyle

A B O U T   T H I S   M I N I - C O U R S E

After participating in the Fitting Fats into a Healthy Lifestyle mini-course you will be able to...

  • discuss the importance of fat as part of a healthy diet.
  • describe the most recent dietary recommendations for fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, and fish oil intake and how these help to decrease the risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease.
  • follow guidelines to help plan diets that help to improve blood cholesterol levels.
  • counsel and plan diets for your clients or patients using current public health recommendations and behavior change theories.
  • evaluate and use online resources containing up-to-date information that will help you construct your own knowledge about basic lipid metabolism, epidemiology of obesity, and diseases related to lipid metabolism such as cardiovascular disease.

This interactive professional development program is 5 weeks long. Each week there will be two sessions and you should be able to complete each session in less than one hour.

You will work on the sessions at your own pace - there are no scheduled class meetings.

Typically there is one discussion per week. You must participate in the discussions, as this is how we monitor your participation for awarding CPEUs. Discussions are asynchronous, which means that you participate at a time that is convenient for you.

During the final session, you can complete a short assessment and pay the required fee in order to receive a certificate documenting your participation.

In each session you will...

  • complete a case study or problem-based activity,
  • read an online resource,
  • post in an online discussion,
  • reply to others in the online discussion,
  • and/or complete an assessment.
