Is This Course for Me?

About This Course

Food Safety for Family Day Care Providers will help you learn about:

  • Foodborne illness – how it happens and how to prevent it
  • Assessing meals and snacks for food safety risks
  • Resources for you and the children in your care

The course has three units, which you will complete in six sessions:

  • Facts About Foodborne Illness
  • Keep Pathogens Away from Food
  • Keep Bacteria from Growing

This website will guide you through the three units to complete the entire course. You will be directed to complete activities such as:

1. Read

2. Complete activities and submit them to the instructor for feedback

  • Assess Your Menu for Food Safety Hazards
  • Go With the Flow to Keep Food Safe

3. Participate in online course discussions, which are not scheduled chats, but rather can be completed at a time and place that is convenient for you.

4. Do activities with the children in your care such as:

At the Conclusion

When you have completed the activities and evaluation and submitted them to the instructor, you will receive a certificate for two training credits from the University of Massachusetts Extension and the Massachusetts Department of Education.
