About This Course

Is This Course for Me?

Food Safety for Family Day Care Providers will help you learn about:

  • Foodborne illness – how it happens and how to prevent it
  • Assessing meals and snacks for food safety risks
  • Food safety education resources for you and the children in your care

The course has three units, which you will complete in six sessions:

  • Facts About Foodborne Illness
  • Keep Pathogens Away From Food
  • Stop Bacteria from Growing

This website will guide you through the three units to complete the entire course. You will be directed to complete activities such as:

1. Read

2. Complete activities

  • Assess Your Menu for Food Safety Hazards
  • Go With the Flow to Keep Food Safe

3. Participate, with other family child care providers around the country, in online course discussions, which are not scheduled chats, but rather can be completed at a time and place that is convenient for you.

4. Do fun and educational activities with the children in your care.

At the Conclusion

When you have completed all of the discussion activities and submitted the course evaluation, you will receive a certificate for four training credits from the University of Massachusetts Extension Nutrition Education Program and the Massachusetts Department of Education, Nutrition, Health and Safety.
